FAQ
How do you calculate Instagram engagement rate?
Add likes, comments, saves and shares for a post, divide by your follower count (or by the post's reach) and multiply by 100. Average it across your last 10–12 posts for a fair picture.
Should I use followers or reach?
Engagement by followers is easy to compare with other accounts. Engagement by reach is more accurate for your own content because it only counts people who actually saw the post. Reach is available in Instagram Insights.
What is a good Instagram engagement rate?
It varies a lot by account size and industry — smaller accounts usually see higher rates. Treat roughly 1–3% by followers as typical and above that as strong, and compare against your own past posts rather than a single benchmark.
Why are saves and shares important?
Saves and shares signal that people found the post genuinely useful or worth passing on, so they are strong signals for reach — and they're the kind of content that also earns links and mentions.
